How deep is it, really?
The swimming pool dips underground at a whopping depth of 60.02 meters or 196.9 feet. For context, that's 15 elephants stacked on each other, 15 buses, 32 cars and 1 Boeing 777. The swimming pool has a volume of 14 million litres of water which is equivalent to six Olympic-sized swimming pools.
What does it look like?
You won't have to look twice to spot it against the horizon. The architectural masterpiece stands elegantly mimicking the shape of an oyster, an ode to the pearl diving heritage of Dubai. Surrounded by a pool on all sides that come together to form gracefully cascading waterfalls near the entrance. The modern structure gives the visitors a grand entrance indeed. The structure looks especially alluring when darkness falls, lighting up the building and showing off it’s oyster-shell shape with a spectacular glow.
Once inside, it doesn’t disappoint either. If you think Deep Dive is just another one of your basic pools, think again. The architectural arrangement and design blows every pool you’ve come across out of the water, quite literally. Designed to replicate an abandoned city, much like the scenes from movies like ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,’ ‘Aquaman,’ and ‘Little Mermaid,’ this is a dream for those looking for a world right out of a movie with a rustic edge.
Although the swimming pool looks unassuming at a glance from a distance, what waits inside is far from it. The intentionally designed sunken city stays true to its name with actual streets and furnished apartments underwater. Talk about dedication to their craft!
And if that didn’t set the mood enough, the venue uses powerful sound systems to relay ambient music across the pool to really help set the vibe. The underwater attraction also features a Mercedes, a games arcade and abandoned streets scape as display and multiple pockets of glass where visitors can wave hello or goodbye to the divers.
While an underwater city with worn-out construction is truly haunting, nothing screams ruined, rustic, and relic quite like nature infiltrating manmade structures with a majestic tree that snakes along the town.
Speaking of movies, the attraction takes it a step forward, like all other developments in Dubai, and is also a stand-in underwater film studio, the largest of the kind in the region.
But is it… safe?
The mystifying location has an equally mesmerizing structure built with quality craftsmanship. All materials used in the pool were checked and doubled checked with multiple tests and experiments to ensure the highest quality of production and safety.
Aside from the structural measures, the management at deep dive ensures the safety of divers through multiple means. The venue has 56 underwater cameras to monitor the divers in case of an emergency.
Additionally, they have staff and highly trained instructors from the Professional Association of Diving Instructors(PADI) and Global Underwater Explorers (GUE) on hand and underwater to ensure visitors' well-being. The team expands to include record-holding free divers and technical divers, as well as specific female divers to ensure maximum comfort and safety for all attendees.
When it comes to the technicalities of the equipment used, deep dive is equipped with optimal diving gasses, Nitrox, a mixture of 79% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, that allows you to spend more time diving at a depth compared to air and Trimix, a mixture of oxygen, helium and nitrogen that is often used for deeper dives.
‘Deep Dive Dubai allows thrill-seekers to dive inwards and discover a new underwater dimension filled with adventure and wonder. We offer an unparalleled experience with year-round diving, in a safe environment, with outstanding instructors and services.
The pool also features the region's largest and most advanced hyperbaric chamber that can house up to 12 people. The room is used to tend to divers who rise to the surface too quickly, foregoing the decompression guidelines and dry chambers at 6 metres and 21 metres. Furthermore, the chamber also features an entertainment system with comfortable chairs and a full-size bathroom cabin.
When it comes to the water inside the pool, the facility is managed to make sure that divers are in a sanitary and hygienic environment. The pool is filled with fresh water that is circulated and filtered every six hours. The filter used is a NASA-developed filter technology and UV radiation which filters water through siliceous volcanic rocks and is maintained at a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius.
