Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully completed the installation of solar energy systems at 22 of its buildings and facilities, marking a significant stride in the city’s shift toward renewable energy.
The initiative is part of RTA’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability under its Zero-Emissions Strategy 2050, as well as the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030.
Shaikha Ahmad Al Shaikh, Director of Buildings and Facilities at RTA, said the project is aligned with Dubai’s long-term vision for sustainable development.
“It promotes the use of renewable energy and helps reduce the carbon footprint. The new systems are expected to generate around 32 million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually—equivalent to cutting about 10,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year.”
The solar panels have been installed across 16 sites including major RTA locations such as the Al Quoz, Al Khawaneej, and Al Rowaiyah bus depots; Al Satwa and Oud Metha bus stations; maintenance workshops in Al Muhaisnah; and various metro depots.
Al Shaikh emphasized that all installations comply with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) standards, with systems tailored to the specific requirements of each site. Energy generation is monitored in real-time through DEWA’s Shams Dubai Calculator, ensuring operational efficiency across all facilities.
This milestone reinforces RTA’s role in supporting Dubai’s clean energy transformation, reducing reliance on traditional power sources while paving the way for a more sustainable urban future.
