Dubai has officially earned recognition as the first Certified Autism Destination™ in the Eastern Hemisphere, a significant achievement that highlights the city's commitment to accessibility and inclusion.
This milestone supports the Dubai Economic Agenda D33 and aligns with the UAE's Year of Community, enhancing the city's tourism offerings for all visitors, including those with autism and sensory sensitivities.
Awarded by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), the certification is the result of a citywide effort led by the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET). Key initiatives included autism and sensory awareness training for over 70,000 individuals and the implementation of sensory guides, hidden disability lanyards, and tailored support at hotels and attractions.
Dubai's tourism infrastructure is now fully equipped to support people of determination, with more than 300 hotels and 15 attractions, including beaches and parks, earning IBCCES certifications. This initiative extends to Dubai International Airport (DXB), which was recognized in December 2023 as the first international airport to achieve the Certified Autism Center™ designation, training 45,000 staff to assist travelers with hidden disabilities.
Further bolstering the effort, Emirates became the world’s first autism-certified airline, providing specialized training to over 30,000 employees. Expo City Dubai, along with other key attractions like Motiongate Dubai and The Green Planet, also joined in the movement to create an inclusive experience for all.
With these combined efforts, Dubai is positioning itself as a global leader in accessible tourism, making it easier for everyone, regardless of ability, to enjoy all the city has to offer.
