Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Dubai Police General Headquarters announced changes to the timings for truck movement on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

The adjustment of timing applies to a section of the road extending from Ras Al Khor Road to Sharjah in both directions during peak traffic hours as of 28th April 2024. The new schedule restricts truck movement in the morning from 06:30 to 08:30 am, and in two periods in the afternoon: the first from 01:00 to 03:00 pm, and a second evening period from 05:30 to 08:00 pm.

Hussein Al Banna, CEO of RTA's Traffic and Roads Agency, announced alterations to truck traffic timings on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road during peak hours, in coordination with Dubai Police. Based on recent studies, this measure aims to distribute truck movements evenly across alternative routes, expecting a 15% reduction in congestion. Engineering studies considered various factors like vehicle density and urban development, ensuring the capacity of alternate routes.

RTA, along with Dubai Police, will communicate the new schedules through informative signs, press releases, and social media, urging compliance from truck drivers and transport companies.

Development of Truck Rest Areas

Since mid-2023, RTA has collaborated with the private sector to develop 19 truck rest areas along key roads in Dubai, covering over 300,000 square meters and accommodating about 1,000 trucks. The first phase, comprising 15 rest areas, will be operational by August 2024, with the remaining areas slated for completion by the end of 2025.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei of Dubai Police emphasized the importance of new traffic measures on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, developed in coordination with RTA and based on engineering standards. He urged heavy vehicle drivers and companies to comply with the revised restrictions, ensuring effective enforcement to avoid penalties.
