Dubai Airports has hosted a special travel simulation at Dubai International Airport (DXB) to help children with autism spectrum disorder gain confidence and prepare for real-world travel.
The initiative was part of the Ta’alouf Programme by Al Jalila Foundation and reflects a broader push to make travel more inclusive across the UAE.
Held in partnership with the oneDXB community, the event offered participating children a calm, structured walkthrough of key airport processes, including check-in, passport control and boarding. Supported by trained Guest Experience Ambassadors, the exercise aimed to reduce travel anxiety and create a more familiar, supportive environment.
Majed Al Joker, Chief Operating Officer of Dubai Airports, emphasized the importance of empathy in accessibility, noting that
“accessibility goes beyond infrastructure. It’s about meeting individual needs with care and understanding.”
Launched 13 years ago, the Ta’alouf Programme equips families and educators with tools to support children with autism, Down syndrome, and other developmental challenges. The programme aligns with the UAE’s national policy to empower people of determination.
Amer Al Zarooni, CEO of Al Jalila Foundation, praised the collaboration, highlighting Dubai Airports’ role in advancing inclusive travel and community engagement, especially during the UAE Year of the Community.
Dubai International Airport is the world’s first to earn the Certified Autism Center designation from IBCCES, reinforcing its commitment to accessible, empathetic travel experiences for all.
