Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has confirmed that 40 air-conditioned rest areas for delivery riders are fully operational ahead of the summer season, as part of a broader push to improve safety and welfare across the city's fast-growing delivery sector.
The facilities are spread across high-demand zones including Hessa Street, Al Barsha, Al Satwa, Al Karama, Al Khawaneej, Oud Maitha, and Arjan. Locations were selected using operational data and a demand study conducted in coordination with delivery companies.
Each rest area is equipped with air conditioning, water dispensers, and mobile phone charging stations. The exterior design has been engineered to limit direct sunlight exposure and provide thermal insulation without blocking visibility. Each facility accommodates around 10 riders at a time and includes dedicated motorcycle parking.
Ahmed Mahboob, CEO of the Licensing Agency at RTA, said traffic safety remains the authority's top priority.
"We have developed an integrated governance framework for the delivery sector that ensures effective oversight across Dubai and contributes to continuously raising service standards,"
he said.
The initiative comes as demand for delivery services continues to rise sharply across the UAE. RTA said the project is designed to give riders a purpose-built environment that supports both their safety and productivity, while also encouraging greater compliance with traffic laws.
Maintenance and preparatory works across all 40 sites have been completed, with the facilities now ready for use through the summer months, when outdoor working conditions in Dubai can be particularly demanding.
