Dubai Customs has emerged as a central force behind the UAE's strongest competitiveness performance on record, according to the 2026 Competitiveness Report, which credits efficient customs operations with strengthening trade flows, supply chain resilience and the country's global business appeal.

The report, based on 30 global studies and 69 indicators, found the UAE's presence among the world's top 10 percent of performers rose from 27 to 37 indicators, the largest single-year jump recorded. The country now leads the Arab world on 57 indicators, or 82.6 percent of the total measured.

Dubai Customs directly influences seven competitiveness indicators tied to trade efficiency, including four within the World Bank's Logistics Performance Index, and contributes partially to 62 others spanning digitalisation, security and government services.

Dr Abdulla Busenad, Director General of Dubai Customs, said the organisation's integrated operating framework has turned operational efficiency into economic value through data-driven decision making, artificial intelligence and improved customer experience.

The UAE ranked ninth globally in export trade last year, with total trade reaching $707 billion, while Jebel Ali Port jumped from 49th to 26th place on the Container Port Performance Index. Officials linked these gains to closer coordination between ports, customs and logistics providers.

Key digital tools cited in the report include the Shahin platform for faster clearance, the Smart Risk Engine for AI-driven shipment assessment, and the Advance Cargo Information initiative, which analyses shipment data before arrival. The customs security pillar posted the report's largest improvement, rising 12.5 percentage points to 50 percent.

The UAE also topped the global Absence of Bureaucracy index. Busenad said Dubai Customs would continue investing in technology and national talent, including through its Masar 33 programme, to sustain the country's competitive position.
