The UAE Ministry of Interior has urged residents across the country to join its "Accident-Free Day" initiative on 31st August, timed to coincide with the first day of the new academic year and aimed at reinforcing safe driving habits as school traffic returns to the roads.

Organised by the Federal Traffic Council in coordination with police forces nationwide, the campaign forms part of a broader strategy to cut road fatalities and build a lasting culture of responsible driving.

Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police and head of the initiative, said drivers and parents must show extra caution as roads around schools grow busier. He called on the public to act with patience and cooperation to protect students and fellow road users.

Registration opens on 17th August through a link shared on the Ministry's official social media account, @MOIUAE. Participants are asked to sign the initiative's pledge and agree to its terms. Those who comply fully with the campaign's conditions will benefit from a reduction of four traffic points.

The initiative promotes a set of core safety practices, including checking vehicles before journeys, respecting speed limits near schools, avoiding phone use behind the wheel, staying in designated lanes, keeping safe distances between vehicles, and giving way to pedestrians.

Bin Suwaidan praised the strong public response seen in previous editions, describing it as a reflection of growing social responsibility and the success of ongoing road safety awareness efforts.

He urged all road users to treat 31st August as a benchmark for responsible driving, adding that the campaign's real impact depends on turning these habits into everyday practice rather than a single day of compliance, helping make UAE roads safer for everyone throughout the year.
