Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has introduced sensory rooms at Al Satwa and Oud Maitha bus stations, marking a step forward in making public transport more inclusive for People of Determination, particularly children with autism.

The initiative is designed to improve the overall mobility experience by creating dedicated spaces that address sensory sensitivities. It aligns with RTA’s broader strategy to enhance customer happiness while delivering specialised services that cater to all segments of the community.

The sensory rooms are carefully designed to offer a balance between relaxation and stimulation. Features include smart low-level lighting to create a calming environment, along with interactive elements such as swings that support physical comfort. Audio-visual components, including soothing music, natural imagery, and colourful visuals, are integrated to help reduce sensory stress.

RTA said the project reflects its commitment to social responsibility and innovation, transforming existing facilities into value-added service points. The move also supports Dubai’s vision of building a more inclusive city where People of Determination can participate fully and comfortably in everyday life.

In recognition of these efforts, RTA has received the Autism-Friendly Environment Certificate from the Dubai Autism Center. The certification underscores the authority’s success in meeting programme standards and reinforces its role in advancing accessible and sustainable transport solutions across the emirate.
