Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has kicked off a city-wide field campaign to ensure its network of air-conditioned bus shelters is fully prepared ahead of the summer 2026 season, covering 895 shelters across 621 locations throughout the emirate.
The campaign involves on-site inspections and proactive maintenance checks, with teams deployed around the clock to identify and resolve technical faults as they arise.
Abdulrahman Al Janahi, Director of Buildings and Facilities at RTA's Corporate Administrative Support Services Sector, said the authority is committed to maintaining the readiness of all public-facing facilities linked to the city's transport network.
Beyond technical upkeep, the campaign includes improvement measures designed to enhance operational efficiency and overall service quality for daily commuters.
RTA has also rolled out social media awareness initiatives and installed informational posters at shelters, reminding users of their role in preserving and maintaining the facilities. Commuters can report issues or share suggestions through the Madinati service on the RTA app, with dedicated teams assigned to handle all incoming feedback.
The shelters are built to withstand Dubai's intense heat and wind conditions, featuring a streamlined, environmentally conscious design that also incorporates large advertising surfaces. Each shelter complies with the Dubai Universal Design Code, providing wheelchair-accessible spaces and digital display screens showing live bus network information — ensuring inclusivity for People of Determination.
With summer temperatures in Dubai routinely exceeding 40°C, the readiness of these shelters is critical to the daily experience of thousands of public transport users across the city.
