Dubai-based investment platform Sarwa has crossed USD 1 billion in client assets, marking a historic milestone as the first UAE-founded FinTech company to reach this threshold and signalling a turning point for retail investing across the region.

The achievement reflects a broader shift in how UAE residents engage with their finances. Once dismissed as an unlikely market for retail investing, the MENA region has steadily proven its appetite for accessible, digitally-driven financial products — and Sarwa has been at the centre of that transformation.

"When we started, many said retail investing would not work in MENA,"

said Mark Chahwan, Group CEO and Co-founder of Sarwa.

"Crossing USD 1 billion in client assets proves otherwise. The demand was always there. What was missing was trust, access, and a simple product built by a great team."

Sarwa's journey began in 2017 when the company was selected for the UAE's inaugural FinTech accelerator programme at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). It became the first graduate of the DFSA's regulatory sandbox and secured early backing from the DIFC FinTech Fund — a foundation that helped shape its growth into one of the GCC's most recognised personal finance platforms.

DIFC CEO of Innovation Hub Mohammad Alblooshi noted that Sarwa's trajectory reflects both its own strategy and the strength of the ecosystem that supported it, with DIFC now ranked among the world's top five FinTech hubs.

The GCC FinTech sector is projected to grow at a 15% compound annual growth rate through 2030, and Sarwa appears well-placed to capture a significant share of that momentum as retail demand continues to scale.
