The UAE has kicked off the Unified GCC Traffic Week under the theme "Cross Safely," uniting national and regional efforts to strengthen road safety awareness across the country.
The initiative, organised by the Ministry of Interior through the Federal Traffic Council and the Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) – Abu Dhabi Mobility, opened with an official ceremony at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi.
Senior officials including Major General Khalifa Hareb Al Khaili, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior, and Brigadier Hussein Ahmed Al Harthi, Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council, attended the launch alongside representatives from government and private sector entities.
Lt. Colonel Rashid Humaid bin Hindi, a member of the Federal Traffic Council, said GCC Traffic Week serves as a key platform for regional cooperation, noting that safer roads depend on shared responsibility and public adherence to traffic laws. He reaffirmed the UAE's ambition to rank among the top three countries globally in reducing traffic fatalities, in line with the "We the UAE 2031" vision.
Alongside the week's events, the Ministry of Interior launched a three-month public awareness campaign also titled "Cross Safely," aimed at encouraging road users to comply with traffic regulations and promoting safer pedestrian practices such as using designated crossings, bridges, and underpasses.
The opening ceremony also included a technology exhibition showcasing innovations from police forces across the emirates, including Abu Dhabi Police's awareness robot "Saqr," Sharjah Police's M30 Matrice surveillance drone, and Fujairah Police's "MetaHip" virtual reality platform for interactive traffic safety training.
Activities are running across all seven emirates through May 7, with events held at major malls and public venues.
