UAE athletes secured three medals on the second day of the seventh IMMAF Youth World Championships at Mubadala Arena in Abu Dhabi, continuing a strong performance for the host nation.
Competing in the Youth C category for athletes aged 12 to 13, the UAE’s 12-member team earned two silver medals and one bronze against international competitors.
Hissa Al Mutawa was among the standout performers, winning a silver medal in her division, while Mahra Al Azizi secured bronze in front of the home crowd. The results underline the progress of young Emirati athletes competing at an international level.
The Youth MMA World Championships have attracted more than 1,100 competitors from 55 countries, bringing together young mixed martial arts athletes for several days of competition. The tournament will continue in Abu Dhabi until 23rd August.
Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, General Secretary of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, highlighted the importance of exposing young Emirati athletes to different international fighting styles. He explained that competing against athletes with varied approaches helps local prospects improve their tactical skills and develop stronger decision-making abilities under competitive pressure.
Wissam Abi Nader, Vice President of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation, also highlighted the championship’s focus on athlete development and safety. The competition uses rules specifically designed for younger participants while helping them develop their technical understanding and fight intelligence.
Attention now turns to the Youth B category for athletes aged 14 to 15. Nine members of the UAE national team are scheduled to compete across two days, providing another opportunity for the host nation to add to its medal tally.
