As the Middle East prepares for GISEC Global 2024, the largest and most impactful cybersecurity nexus in the region, artificial intelligence (AI) continues to emerge as a hot topic in industry discussions.

Held under the theme of ‘AI-Driven Cyber Resilience’, GISEC Global 2024 will take place at Dubai World Trade Centre from 23rd-25th April and will see over 750 of the world’s biggest cybersecurity companies, as well as 350-plus global cybersecurity speakers and 1,000 international ethical hackers convene in the UAE to address the AI-related challenges and trends shaping the future of technology.

Charles Brooks, President of Brooks Consulting International and Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University, asserts that AI is significantly impacting cybersecurity, expediting threat detection and identification processes. AI-powered software can swiftly scan for unauthorized connections, abnormal activities, and data exfiltration, empowering companies to proactively guard against anomalies. However, Brooks warns of the risks posed by malicious AI, which can conceal malware and execute delayed attacks, obtaining user data and adapting to countermeasures. Vectra AI, a leader in AI-driven cybersecurity, will showcase its innovations at GISEC Global 2024, highlighting the growing importance of AI in defending against cyber threats.

Christian Borst, EMEA CTO at Vectra AI, praises the positive impact of Generative AI on cybersecurity, facilitating faster and smarter decision-making. However, he acknowledges the risks posed by evolving cyber threats, with criminal hackers exploiting Generative AI to create undetectable malware and breach security measures. Quantum Computing adds further uncertainty, potentially compromising conventional encryption methods. Despite these challenges, cybersecurity experts remain optimistic about the transformative potential of AI and Machine Learning, emphasizing the need for innovation and a willingness to embrace change. Borst believes that countries in the Middle East are displaying remarkable momentum in adopting advanced technological solutions to address cybersecurity challenges.
