Majid Al Futtaim's flagship VOX Cinemas at Mall of the Emirates has become the first cinema in the GCC to receive Dubai Municipality's Wosool Certificate of Compliance with Accessibility Regulations for Existing Buildings, making it the only fully accessible cinema in the Middle East.
The certification marks a significant step for the Dubai-based retail and leisure group, which operates malls, communities, and entertainment venues across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. The upgraded cinema now allows all categories of People of Determination to access every service and auditorium with greater ease and independence.
Key enhancements include easy access doors, ramps at entrances and exits, accessible health facilities, dedicated counters, and dedicated auditorium spaces, along with improved wayfinding throughout the venue. Together, these features ensure People of Determination can experience cinema services on equal terms with other visitors.
Ignace Lahoud, Chief Executive Officer of Majid Al Futtaim Entertainment, said the certification reflects the company's commitment to creating experiences for everyone. He noted that the achievement reinforces the belief that true excellence is inclusive by design, part of the group's broader sustainability strategy, Dare Today, Change Tomorrow.
Majid Al Futtaim confirmed that similar accessibility upgrades will be rolled out across other VOX Cinemas locations in the region as part of its ongoing push for inclusive entertainment spaces.
The Wosool Service was introduced alongside the Dubai Universal Design Code, part of the My Community, A City for Everyone initiative launched by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Obtaining the certificate is now mandatory for buildings across Dubai, confirming compliance with the Dubai Building Code and ensuring accessible, safe environments for People of Determination, older adults, and children alike.
