Dubai Electricity and Water Authority has emerged as a leading example of the Dubai-It initiative launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, translating the emirate's ambition into measurable global benchmarks across energy and water services.
DEWA currently ranks first in 13 key performance indicators worldwide. The utility recorded the world's lowest customer minutes lost for electricity at just 0.82 minutes annually per customer, alongside transmission and distribution network losses of only 2%. Water network losses stood at 4.4%, among the lowest globally, while power system reliability exceeded 99.99%.
Speaking on the achievements, Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, said the authority combines clear vision with proactive planning and strategic partnerships to deliver measurable outcomes that anticipate Dubai's future needs.
Central to this success is the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, the world's largest single-site solar facility under the independent power producer model. Its capacity has reached 3,860MW and is set to exceed 8,000MW by 2030, surpassing earlier targets. The park's fourth phase has secured four Guinness World Records for combining photovoltaic and concentrated solar technologies.
Clean energy now makes up more than 21.5% of Dubai's energy mix, with plans to reach 36% by 2030 and full clean energy production by 2050. The Hatta Hydroelectric Power Plant, the first of its kind in the GCC, adds further diversification with 250MW capacity and an 80 year lifespan.
DEWA is also investing AED 7 billion in a Smart Grid Strategy through 2035, supported by artificial intelligence tools including its virtual assistant Rammas, which has handled more than 13 million customer inquiries since 2017.
Together, these initiatives position DEWA as a global reference point for utility performance and sustainable development.
