flydubai has become the first UAE carrier to operate flights to Benghazi, inaugurating a three-times-weekly service to Benina International Airport on Wednesday.
The inaugural flight was greeted with a water cannon salute and a reception from local airport officials, marking a new air link between Dubai and Libya's second-largest city.
The route expands flydubai's African network to 13 destinations across nine countries.
Hamad Obaidalla, Chief Commercial Officer at flydubai, cited strong early demand for the service and pointed to the summer travel period as a key driver behind the launch timing.
Sudhir Sreedharan, Divisional Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations, described Africa as a strategically important market for the airline, with Benghazi representing the latest addition to its growing continental footprint.
Flights operate from Terminal 3 at Dubai International on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The service is available under the flydubai and Emirates codeshare partnership, giving passengers access to a combined network with through baggage check-in and single-ticket itineraries.
