The UAE has reinforced its commitment to worker welfare with a package of labour reforms taking effect in 2026, combining heat stress protections, a revamped wage system, and a series of social initiatives aimed at improving life for the country's workforce.
For the 22nd consecutive year, the UAE's Midday Break policy came into force on 15th June, running through to 15th September 2026. The regulation bans outdoor work under direct sunlight between 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. daily, shielding workers from peak heat conditions during the Gulf summer. Complementing this, the government has deployed more than 12,000 air-conditioned rest stations equipped with essential amenities for delivery workers across the country.
On the financial side, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation has issued a decision designating the first day of each Gregorian month as the unified wage due date for private-sector employees, effective from June 2026. Employers are now required to process salaries through the updated Wage Protection System, a move designed to improve transparency, strengthen labour relations, and sharpen the competitiveness of the UAE's labour market.
The government has also rolled out a broad programme of social and humanitarian initiatives throughout 2026. On International Workers' Day on 1st May, the Ministry hosted more than 18 activities across over 40 locations nationwide. Events included cricket tournaments, workers' running races, workplace visits, and gift distributions at shopping malls, recognising the everyday contributions of the country's labour force.
Together, the measures reflect the UAE's positioning of human capital as central to its development agenda, reinforcing its reputation as a leading global destination for work, residency, and investment.
