Dubai's Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Silal, the UAE's leading agri-food and technology group, to strengthen sustainable food security across the emirate.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the Emirates Agriculture Conference and Exhibition 2026 in Al Ain. It establishes a cooperative framework aimed at ensuring the continuity and competitiveness of local food production while providing greater support to Dubai's farming community.

The partnership brings together DECCA's regulatory mandate with Silal's operational expertise across sourcing, logistics and distribution. Together, the two entities aim to create more reliable pathways for locally grown produce to reach consumers, while reducing food loss and waste through the adoption of modern agricultural technologies.

Ahmad Mohammad Bin Thani, Director General of DECCA, described food security as a national priority and said the agreement reflects a commitment to translating policy into tangible outcomes on the ground in Dubai. Dhafer Al Qasimi, Group CEO of Silal, said the collaboration would strengthen the group's ability to support farmers across the full agri-food value chain.

Beyond production, the MoU is designed to diversify food sources, reinforce the presence of Emirati products within the national food basket and build a more resilient local food ecosystem.

The agreement reflects DECCA's broader strategy of working across government, the private sector, research institutions and local communities to drive measurable impact. Officials say the partnership is a long-term investment in a home-grown food system built to serve Dubai and the wider UAE for generations ahead.
