Dubai is set to welcome over 30 new parks within the next year, with plans including a mix of mega parks, neighborhood parks, and smaller community play areas, according to Ahmed Ibrahim AlZarouni, Head of Public Parks and Recreational Facilities Department at Dubai Municipality. While specific locations were not disclosed, this announcement was made on the first day of the Arabian Travel Mart (ATM), which commenced at the Dubai World Trade Centre. This four-day exhibition draws travel and tourism industry experts worldwide.

AlZarouni further disclosed details about the designs of the upcoming green spaces, stating,

"The parks will feature a new generation design."

He highlighted examples of recently opened parks in Al Nahda, Qusais, and Al Warqa as prototypes for the new generation parks, noting their elegant designs and expanded play areas.

Dubai boasts over 190 parks spread across the emirate, offering a diverse range of facilities and services. These include sports fields, playgrounds catering to children and people with disabilities, as well as barbecue areas.

Increasing Parks and Green Areas

AlZarouni also revealed plans to surpass 70 parks in the emirate within the next three years.

"By 2026, we will have over 70 parks across the emirate,"

he announced, highlighting that these parks will cater to various communities beyond just families.

According to the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, the allocation of space for recreational areas and parks will double. These areas will serve the expanding population and serve as green connectors linking service areas, residential zones, and workplaces. They will also facilitate pedestrian, bicycle, and sustainable transportation movement throughout the city, in collaboration with developers and government entities.

AlZarouni emphasized that each park is meticulously designed to meet the specific needs of its community residents.

"We conduct thorough studies to understand the demographics of each area,"

he explained.

"Subsequently, we tailor the park's design to cater to the majority of residents. For instance, if a locality has a high demand for cricket, we will incorporate a cricket ground into the park. Similarly, if basketball is popular in another area, we will include a basketball court. Each park is uniquely designed to serve its community's needs."
