Dubai is set to become the global hub for next-generation airport technologies as the 24th edition of the Airport Show opens from May 6 to 8 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, showcasing cutting-edge ground handling solutions aimed at boosting efficiency, profitability, and sustainability.
Held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, the event will feature more than 130 exhibitors from 22 countries, bringing innovations in electric ground support equipment to the forefront. These technologies are central to regional efforts to reduce carbon emissions and prepare for growing passenger demand.
Organisers highlight that airports across the region are investing heavily in infrastructure upgrades, with a sharp focus on sustainability. Electric ground handling equipment—seen as key to faster turnaround times and lower emissions—is driving transformation in airport operations.
The exhibition will include dedicated pavilions for ground handling, airport technology, and design, supported by major industry players like dnata. A series of conferences will run alongside the event, including the Global Airport Leaders Forum and the Women in Aviation Middle East Conference.
Mai Ismail, Events Director at RX Global, noted a growing shift toward battery-powered and energy-efficient technologies, propelled by falling battery costs and increased environmental regulations.
dnata’s Divisional Senior Vice President, Jafar Dawood, said the company is replacing diesel with electric, hybrid, or hydrogen-powered equipment, aiming to cut its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030.
With a projected market growth to over 44,000 electric ground handling units by 2029 and a global value reaching US$17.44 billion by 2032, the sector is poised for a major leap—one that will be front and center in Dubai next week.
