Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has launched a series of traffic "Quick Wins" at 28 locations across the emirate between July and September 2026, aiming to ease congestion and improve safety ahead of the new academic year.
The works target four school zones, three development areas, and 21 sites across Dubai. RTA scheduled the projects during the summer break to take advantage of lower traffic volumes, speed up delivery, and reduce disruption for road users.
The most significant undertaking is the Emirates Road expansion, which adds two new lanes over a 5 km stretch running from Sharjah towards Al Amardi Street. Given the corridor's role in linking Dubai with neighbouring emirates, RTA expects the expansion to cut peak hour journey times by 25 percent.
Other upgrades include improvements at the Trade Centre Street and Marasi Drive intersection in Business Bay, better traffic flow on Latifa Bint Hamdan Street near Al Quoz Industrial Area, and enhancements on Ras Al Khor Road towards Al Khail Road.
Residential areas are also being addressed. A new lane is being added at the Al Khawaneej Street and Al Amardi Street intersection, the right turn from Ras Al Khor Road towards Dubai-Al Ain Road is being widened from one lane to two, and a lane is being expanded on Algeria Street in Al Mizhar 4 near the labour accommodation entrance.
To support the upcoming school year, RTA is building new parking spaces at Zayed Educational Complex in Al Mizhar 2 and Horizon International School in Umm Al Sheif, easing congestion during drop off and pick up times.
RTA said the locations were chosen using technical studies, historical traffic data, field surveys, intelligent transport systems, and public feedback, reflecting its ongoing push to strengthen connectivity as Dubai's population and urban footprint continue to grow.
