Emirates SkyCargo has become the first airline cargo carrier to deploy a converted Boeing 777-300ERSF freighter, marking a new phase in its fleet expansion strategy.
The aircraft, registered A6-EBK, entered commercial service on a flight from Hong Kong to Dubai carrying more than 100 tonnes of cargo.
The converted freighter offers 100 tonnes of payload capacity and 811 cubic metres of cargo volume, a 25 percent increase over the Boeing 777-F production freighter. With 47 pallet positions, it carries 10 more than the standard 777-F, making it well suited for volumetric cargo such as e-commerce shipments, which now account for roughly 20 percent of global air cargo tonnage and are expected to keep growing.
Badr Abbas, Emirates SkyCargo's Divisional Senior Vice President, said the induction of the aircraft reflects the airline's push to expand fleet capacity and operational flexibility by converting older Boeing 777-300ER passenger jets to meet rising demand for cargo transport. He noted that combined with the growing fleet of 777-F production freighters, Emirates SkyCargo has expanded its freighter network from just over 40 destinations in February to 62 currently, with further growth planned.
The newly converted aircraft is the sixth freighter to join the fleet since March 2026, following five Boeing 777-F production freighters. Emirates SkyCargo plans to take delivery of five more 777-F aircraft and one additional converted 777-300ERSF by December 2026, with three more converted freighters set to join the fleet in 2027.
The expansion underscores Emirates SkyCargo's broader ambition to strengthen global trade links, connect new markets and deepen ties to key production hubs across its six-continent network.
