The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Library Foundation has unveiled Dubai Archive, a national initiative designed to build a unified, AI-powered document management system that safeguards Dubai's government records, cultural heritage, and institutional knowledge for future generations.
Announced at a press conference held at the Foundation's headquarters in Al Jaddaf, the project aims to modernise how government and semi-government entities manage, store, and retrieve documents. It aligns with Dubai's broader digital transformation agenda and its commitment to open data, governance, and knowledge sustainability.
Speaking at the launch, H.E. Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Chairman of the Foundation, described the initiative as a qualitative shift in how the emirate approaches institutional knowledge. He noted that a document is more than an administrative record — it is a reflection of decisions and a witness to history that together form a national memory.
As part of its pilot phase, the Foundation signed six cooperation agreements with key government entities, including Dubai Municipality, Digital Dubai Authority, the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department, Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, the Dubai Government Human Resources Department, and Mohammed Bin Rashid Library. A separate agreement was signed with ONE ECM, the project's technical partner, to develop and operate the archiving infrastructure.
Dubai Archive will introduce unified archiving policies and a specialised government reference framework built on international best practices. Powered by artificial intelligence, the system will support efficient document retrieval, strengthen information security, and protect records from loss or damage.
Beyond government efficiency, the initiative positions Dubai as a global model in institutional knowledge management, while providing reliable resources for academic research and evidence-based policymaking.
